The Ilkhanate period was one of the most prosperous periods for Urmia (or Orumiyeh) city. Jameh Mosque of Urmia is one of the buildings constructed during this period and is located near Urmia Bazaar. The stuccos of the Mosque are known as the most beautiful stuccos of the Mongols’ period; also the dome of this mosque is very much like the dome of Saheb-ol-Amr Mosque in Tabriz.
According to experts and with regards to the existence of the Shabestans of Jameh Mosque of Urmia that has domes, there is also a possibility that the primary nucleus of the building belongs to the Seljuk dynasty, but only the objects belonging to the Ilkhanate period were discovered during excavations.
