Eid al-Fitr

Above other Islamic celebrations in Iran and the world, Eid al-Fitr is the most important Islamic celebration for Muslims around the world. This celebration is a symbol of the unification of Muslims and all celebrate this festival around the world. Eid al-Fitr is held on the day after the last day of the holy month of Ramadan (9th month of the Islamic calendar) and the beginning day of Shawwal (10th month of Islamic Calendar), after a month of fasting.

This day is a non-working day in all Islamic countries and is also considered a UN holiday. In Iran, on the morning of Eid al-Fitr celebration day, people prayer in Musallas(bigger than mosques) or mosques in their cities. After morning prayers, people go to the family’s elders people and they eat breakfast at their home.

Eid al-Adha

The second major Islamic celebration in Iran is Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Adha will be held on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah (the last month of the Islamic calendar) and at the same time as the Hajj sacrifice ceremony in Mecca.

This Eid celebrate for respect to that day Abraham went along with his son Ishmael for sacrificing him but the Lord sent a sheep for slaughtering instead of his son. From the customs of ceremony can mention, slaughtering sheep, Bull or camel, people usually donate the meat of animals to the poor peoples after sacrificing.

Bi’tha

This celebration is one of the most important Islamic celebrations in Iran that celebrate on the 27th day of Rajab (the 7th month of the Islamic calendar). The Iranian people celebrate this day by lighting the streets with colored lamps.

Eid al-Ghadir

The 18th day of Dhu al-Hijjah is the day of the introduction of Imam Ali as deputy of prophet Muhammad. This festival is one of the most important Islamic celebrations in iran of Shia Islam around the world, especially for the Iranians. One of the customs of this day is going to see Sadat’s family and greet them, sadaats also gives them gifts.

Mid-Sha’ban

According to the Shiites and some Sunni followers of Islam, the 12th Imam also the last Imam in Shia Islam, called Imam Mahdi, is the last savior of humankind in the world, and on a day he will emerge and he will save human beings and will bring peace to the world. The Mid-Sha’ban festival is the birthday of Imam Mahdi. One of the most common customs on this day is the illumination of the streets with colored lamps and the present Salawati stations. This means that some people offer something like juice or syrup and sweets to others, and others send Salawat for wish health instead.
