Sar Yazd Fortress or Sar Yazd Castle dates back to about 1800 years ago, namely the Sasanian period. The fortress was not for military use but was storage for grains and nutritions for nearby villagers. The people around the fortress also transported their jewels and money to the fort during the raids to keep them safe. In order to protect the fortress, a moat about 6 meters wide and 4 meters deep was dug around it. The castle has two gates, one as the main door, and the other was used at the times of depredation.
Sar Yazd Fortress is located near Mehriz city and in Sar Yazd village. Zein-o-din Caravanserai is one of the historical places that is located a short distance from the fortress and is 40 km away.
