Yazd Fire Temple is a Zoroastrian temple located in Yazd where the sacred Zoroastrian Fire, which is called the Atash Behram (fire of Behram), is preserved. This monument was built in 1934 by several Zoroastrians. The fire which is burning in the fire temple has been stoked for more than 1,500 years.
This fire was brought to the Yazd from Karian Fire Temple of Larestan in Fars province and stocked for about 700 years and then moved from Aqda to Ardakan (Turkabad village) and was stocked there for nearly 300 years and finally in 1474 (A.D.), it was taken from Turkabad to Yazd and was stoked there. The fire was first housed in a quarter called Khalaf Khan Ali, in the house of one of the great Zoroastrian mobeds named Mobed Tirandaz Azargashsb, and then was taken to this fire temple in 1934, after its construction.
The main building of Yazd Fire Temple or Atash Behram is 21 meters high and there is a howz (a centrally positioned symmetrical axis pool) in the yard of the complex. One of the main characteristics of the Zoroastrian fire temples is the existence of a howz nearby. The capital of the columns in this fire temple was built in Isfahan and moved to this place.
Zoroastrian Fire Temple of Yazd is located in the Zartosht quarter of Yazd in Ayatollah Kashani Street.
