Khorasan Great Museum was inaugurated in 2014 in a land with an area of 4900 and with an infrastructure of 18000. However, the primary idea of the construction of the museum dates back to before the Islamic revolution, but in 1992 the construction of this museum in Koohsangi park of Mashhad was approved by the municipality of Mashhad and after an interval of a few years, it was constructed in 2014.
Khorasan Great Museum contains 12 stories and advanced security facilities. Each floor is related to a different part of the museum including an antiquities restoration lab, a library containing more than 5000 volumes of books, an amphitheater, a theater and etc.
The antiquities presented in the Khorasan Great Museum are related to prehistoric, pre-Islamic, and post-Islamic eras and have an acceptable variety. A volume of the holy Quran in Kufic calligraphy on deerskin which is related to one of Shia Imams and an effigy of mother goddess which dates back to prehistoric era are among these antiquities.
Khorasan Great Museum is located southeast of Mashhad and inside Koohsangi park and accessing this place is possible via Koohsangi subway station and the surrounding streets.
