Gonbad Sabz is one of the historical buildings of Mashhad city which dates back to the Safavid dynasty. It is not exactly recognized which famous mystic of Khorasan was buried in this place. But it is obvious that Gonbad Sabz has been a shrine and people did pilgrimage journeys to this place. According to historical documents, a mystic named Mohammad Momen was buried here and there is no more information available. Meanwhile, in the history of Khorasan, there were 3 mystics nicknamed Mohammad Momen. It could be guessed that this person was Sheikh Momen Estarabadi.
This mausoleum was built in 1645 and was named Gonbad Sabz due to its dome’s greenish turquoise color. This monument is located in the west of Imam Reza’s shrine and in the middle of Akhund Khorasani square.
