Chogha Zanbil Ziggurat (meaning “high altitude”) is a temple that dates back to more than 1500 years ago and it belongs to the Elamite period. The altitude of this ziggurat was more than 50 meters and it contained 5 stories. Currently, two and a half stories of the building remain which is about 20 meters high. An interesting point in the architecture of Chogha Zanbil Ziggurat is that the floors are not connected by a roof and each floor is built directly on the ground. This brick building is registered on the List of World Heritage Sites of Iran in UNESCO.
There are several inscriptions on the bricks of the Ziggurat, including Untash-Gal (which dates back to the time of construction) and Ashurbanipal (the king of Assyria) inscription which dates back to the time of conquest and demolition of the building.
