Mirror and Lighting Museum which was formerly a Caravanserai was built in 1940 in a garden southeast of Yazd. The mansion has an area of 8174 meters and has a large courtyard with a pool in the center. The building contains chambers facing the pool which are decorated with Āina-kāri (a kind of interior decoration made by Iranian artists for the first time by putting small pieces of the mirror together in geometric forms or in forms of flowers and shrubs) and the hallways are nested.
Sarrafzadeh mansion became Mirror and Lighting Museum in 1998. The architecture and facade of this building is a blend of traditional Iranian and European architecture. The mansion contains chambers facing the pool or a living room, bedrooms, Shahneshin (king’s chamber), Howzkhaneh (pool house), and a bathroom. All rooms of the Mirror and Lighting Museum are decorated with stuccos, paintings, and Āina-kāri. The windows of the Mirror Palace in Yazd are formed with meshes and colored glass and the doors of the museum are made of wood. There are 124 objects in the museum, including:
Oil lamps, candlelight, kerosene lamp, gaslights, electric lamps and lights, and a series of mirrors some of which date back to the Sasanian period. There are also a number of antique manuscripts, guns, coins, books, stamps, locks, snaffles (from the second millennium BC), and bronze objects from Lorestan.
Mirror and Lighting Museum of Yazd is located at the southern end of Kashani Street, across from Haftom-e Tir Park.
